US websites reported the 18-year-old had been pictured with a bottle of "purple drank" appeared to be codeine cough syrup, known as 'sizzurp' and used as a recreational drug.
Shortly after the claims were published, Bieber took to his Twitter account to criticise speculation about his personal life.
Bieber wrote: "Some of these rumours about me are getting a little out of control now. dont believe the bs. gonna focus on the positive. i understand that rumours come with the territory but im gonna stay me. focus on the music. u wanna know what im about...it is all right there. #BELIEVEacoustic (sic)."
